About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Charleston, WV, nurtures a new generation of leaders who are advocates for a fair and sustainable food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship program offers comprehensive education in organic food systems and hands-on training at the beautiful Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA. By ensuring no tuition is charged, we prioritize accessibility for all aspiring Fellows. Participants engage in practical experiences that include growing and distributing diverse crops, teaching food and ecological literacy in schools, and supporting community gardens, farmers markets, and food coalitions. Over the course of six months of immersive learning, followed by a Community Action Year, Fellows partner with local non-profits to create meaningful impacts in their communities. Applications are accepted until March, with the fellowship running from May to October each year, paving the way for innovative leaders in food justice and community resilience.
