About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
Located in Daniels, WV, the Allegheny Mountain Institute's Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders in sustainable agriculture and food justice. This immersive program sponsors, trains, and empowers Fellows to advocate for a food system that is socially equitable, environmentally sound, and economically viable. Through hands-on experience at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, participants engage in organic food system education, work with community partners to cultivate diverse crops, implement health-focused educational initiatives, and support community gardens. The Fellowship also encourages the integration of food and ecological literacy in educational settings, promotes local farmers markets, and develops innovative distribution channels for increased access to healthy foods. Selected Fellows enjoy a six-month residential study followed by a Community Action Year, actively applying their learning with regional non-profit organizations. For those interested in making a tangible impact, applications are due by March each year, with the fellowship coinciding with the growing season from May to October.
