The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Hinton, WV, offers a transformative opportunity for individuals passionate about creating a socially, environmentally, and economically just food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this Fellowship empowers participants through comprehensive organic food system education, providing essential training to become advocates and educators in their communities. With no tuition fees, the program ensures accessibility for all aspiring Fellows. Participants engage in hands-on experiences at the picturesque Allegheny Farm, where they learn to grow and distribute diverse crops, implement health-focused educational sessions, and maintain school and community gardens. Throughout the Fellowship, they promote food and ecological literacy in local schools and contribute to the success of farmers markets and direct-to-consumer initiatives. After six months of immersive learning, Fellows transition into a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to apply their knowledge and skills, enhancing access to healthy foods and supporting community food coalitions. Applications are accepted until March for a seasonal program running from May to October.
