About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Ona, WV, is dedicated to fostering the next generation of advocates and leaders in sustainable food systems through comprehensive training and hands-on experience. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship offers a unique opportunity for participants to engage in organic food system education without the burden of tuition, promoting accessibility for all. Selected Fellows spend six months at the Allegheny Farm Campus, where they learn to cultivate and distribute diverse crops on a market-style farm, implement innovative health care educational sessions, manage school and community gardens, and enhance food and ecological literacy within local educational frameworks. Additionally, they play a crucial role in bolstering farmers markets, establishing direct-to-consumer channels, and collaborating with regional non-profits during their Community Action Year to expand access to healthy foods. The program welcomes applicants each year with a deadline in March, and the immersive experience typically runs from May through October.
