About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Parkersburg, WV, offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders in sustainable agriculture and food justice. This unique fellowship empowers participants through comprehensive training in organic food systems, focusing on promoting social, environmental, and economic equity. Our program, which does not require tuition to ensure accessibility, equips Fellows with the hands-on experience necessary to grow and distribute diverse crops, implement educational initiatives for innovative healthcare practices, and maintain vibrant community gardens. Through their training, Fellows engage in teaching food and ecological literacy, support local farmers' markets and direct-to-consumer programs, and collaborate with community organizations to enhance access to healthy food. Over six months of immersive learning at Allegheny Farm, followed by a Community Action Year, Fellows apply their knowledge and advocacy skills to address local food challenges and promote a fairer food system. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience taking place from May to October.
