About WISEWOMAN Program
The WISEWOMAN Program, developed by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, is dedicated to empowering low-income, underinsured, or uninsured women aged 40 to 64 in Petersburg, WV. Our mission is to equip these women with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to enhance their diets, increase physical activity, and adopt healthier lifestyle habits that can prevent, delay, and manage cardiovascular and other chronic diseases. Through our comprehensive program, participants receive essential health education, regular measurements of height, weight, and blood pressure, lab tests for cholesterol and glucose, and personalized follow-up visits if health metrics indicate a need. We focus on setting achievable health goals, encouraging positive lifestyle changes such as smoking cessation and improved nutrition, and providing referrals to community resources that facilitate lasting change. Together, we are committed to fostering a healthier future for every woman we serve.
