The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, situated in Poca, WV, is dedicated to cultivating informed advocates for a just and sustainable food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this program offers comprehensive training without tuition fees, ensuring all aspiring Fellows have access to vital education in organic food systems. Participants engage in hands-on experiences at the Allegheny Farm, where they learn to grow diversified crops on a market-style farm, sustain community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into educational initiatives. The Fellows also contribute to programs that enhance health care through innovative food education, support local farmers markets, and develop distribution channels to increase access to healthy food in the region. After six months of immersive learning, selected individuals embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profits to apply their knowledge and skills. Applications are accepted until March, with the fellowship experience running from May to October each year.
