Located in Ronceverte, WV, the Allegheny Mountain Institute's Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders committed to creating a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. This immersive program empowers selected Fellows by providing them with a comprehensive, tuition-free education in organic food systems at the picturesque Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA. Throughout their six-month, hands-on experience, Fellows engage in practical initiatives such as growing and distributing diverse crops on a market-style farm, facilitating innovative health education sessions, maintaining school and community gardens, and integrating food and ecological literacy into educational settings. They also play a vital role in supporting farmers markets, developing distribution channels for healthy food access, and mentoring future participants. Following their fellowship, each Fellow undertakes a Community Action Year, collaboratively applying their expertise with regional non-profits to create meaningful impact. Applications for this transformative journey are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience spanning from May to October.
