About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Saint Marys, WV, empowers individuals to become advocates for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in organic food system education over a six-month immersive program at the Allegheny Farm Campus. Without tuition fees, the fellowship promotes accessibility and inclusiveness for all aspiring fellows. Participants will engage in a variety of initiatives, such as growing diversified crops on a market-style farm, implementing health-focused educational sessions, maintaining community and school gardens, and integrating food and ecological literacy into educational programming. Selected fellows will also support farmers markets, enhance distribution channels for healthy foods, and collaborate with community food coalitions. Following their training, fellows will engage in a Community Action Year, applying their skills alongside regional non-profits to drive positive change. Applications are accepted until March each year, with experiences running from May to October.
