About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Spencer, WV, is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of advocates and educators focused on building a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Through comprehensive training at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, our program equips Fellows with essential skills in organic food system education, enabling them to grow and distribute diverse crops on market-style farms, implement innovative health care educational sessions, maintain community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into local schools. We are committed to accessibility, offering this transformative experience tuition-free, and empowering Fellows to support farmers markets, enhance distribution channels for healthy foods, and engage in community coalition activities. Over six months of immersive residential study, selected Fellows not only gain hands-on experience but also spend a Community Action Year applying their knowledge in partnership with regional non-profit organizations, making a lasting impact. Applications are accepted through March, with the fellowship experience typically occurring from May to October.
