Allegheny Mountain Institute (AMI) Welch, WV

About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship at Allegheny Mountain Institute in Welch, WV, is dedicated to training and empowering individuals as advocates for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. This unique program provides organic food system education without charging tuition, ensuring accessibility for all. Selected Fellows engage in a six-month experiential residency at AMI’s Allegheny Farm Campus, where they learn to grow and distribute diverse crops, implement educational health initiatives, manage community gardens, and promote food and ecological literacy in local schools. After their residential experience, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profit organizations to further their impact. By supporting farmers markets, developing distribution channels for healthy foods, and mentoring the next cohort, our fellows play a crucial role in strengthening food access and fostering community resilience. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship running from May to October.
