The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Wheeling, WV, nurtures passionate individuals who aspire to transform our food system into one that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. Through a unique, tuition-free program, we empower Fellows with hands-on training and education in organic farming practices at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA. Our dedicated participants gain skills in growing and distributing diversified crops, implementing health-focused educational sessions, maintaining gardens for schools and communities, and fostering food and ecological literacy among youth. This fellowship not only facilitates the development of vital distribution channels for healthy food access but also actively supports local farmers markets and community food coalitions. After an intensive six-month residency, our Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to put their knowledge into action. Applications are accepted until March each year, with experiences typically running from May through October.
