Day 1: Psalm 142 - Pouring Out Your Complaint

Take a moment to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Then open your eyes and slowly read and pray today's psalm in the image above.
The psalmist begins in a very personal way, crying aloud to the Lord for mercy (1). That cry then becomes an honest complaint about the trouble he is facing (2). He feels as though no one is at his right hand and no one cares for his life (4), yet he turns to the Lord and calls God his refuge (5).
Being listened to by God is often where comfort and hope begin. Even in the middle of suffering and complaint, there may be a way to experience God's goodness (7).
Slowly pray Psalm 142 again. Allow yourself to really voice your complaints, fears, and frustrations. As you do, remember that God actually hears you and wants to be your refuge in the storm you are facing.
