If you are in the United States there is a free (funded by the US Department of Treasury) program called Find Financial Freedom (website findfinancialfreedom [dot] org). You will learn how to budget, pay off debt, and improve your credit score. They have a list of free resources that provide more help. You can even talk to a coach (if one is available) for free. U.S. Government Services and Information (website is usa [dot] gov) also has lists of a lot of services to help with finances, housing, food, etc. There are many free and low-cost non-profit agencies offering services to help people get (and stay) out of debt. If in the US, you can also call 211 to find out how to get help. When you do seek assistance you should be prepared to give information: your gross and net income, your fixed expenses, your debt, etc. You may be asked to provide proofs: tax returns, pay stubs, benefit letters, lease/mortgage paperwork, letters showing your debt, bank statements, credit reports, etc.
