I’m really sorry to hear that suicidal ideation has affected you personally or affected someone you love. Reasons for suicidal thoughts can be due to feelings of hopelessness, lack of purpose in life among many other reasons. If you know of someone in your life experiencing these dark thoughts please urge them to seek professional support (Samaritans etc) and stand by them as a pillar of support. Sometimes even one person that someone thinks genuinely cares is enough to keep someone from making that jump over the edge. A simple “ How are you?” is just what a person may need regardless of how open they are about their struggles. So, you can be this person by always truly listening to their concerns, showing up when they ask you to or even when they do not ask you to, providing a shoulder to cry on, or a smile or person to laugh with, and providing those words of affirmation that you love them. But also it’s important whether you are the supporter of someone who has suicidal thoughts to take care of your own mental health.Do the best you can and encourage them to seek professional help.
