The first step is becoming aware of your negative thoughts. Whenever you realize that you're thinking something negative, stop yourself and ask 'why?'. Try to determine whether that negative thought is rational or not, and replace it was a more positive, rational one. For instance, if I think "Everyone hates me" I might stop myself and think, "is that true? It is even possible for everyone to hate me? Maybe some people in this world dislike me but certainly not everyone, and there are people who like me too."

Its very simple, first calm down if you are stressed. Then close your eyes and think of the one person you love/respect the most. And imagine that person is with you right now, and is walking with you in the situation you are right now. You will feel the power to overcome anything because that person is with you. And if you do not have such person in your life. Then imagine that person is your future self, watching you through memories. You will get charged and motivated instantly.

Positivity is the key to life in general. Instead of focusing on everything that is negative try to think of things that would make it seem less negative. For example: I failed my test in class today my parents are going to be so mad! Change that and think, well if I failed this test, I know what I am bad at and what I am good at. If I work a bit harder there is a possibility that I can pass the next test.

If you’re constantly telling yourself “I can’t” you may convince yourself that’s the truth. Replace these negative words with positive ones instead. Tell yourself you will do your best or that you will try your hardest instead. Don’t let negative thoughts and feelings overwhelm you when you’re feeling down. Even if it’s only for a few hours a day, push your negativity aside and only focus on the good things in your life. Try filling your thoughts with words that make you feel strong, happy and in control of your life. Make a concentrated effort to focus on these words rather than those that make you feel like you are failing or incompetent.

it's a practice like anything else, and with practice, things get better! I know for me focusing on positive side, gratitude journal, asking questions like "what's good about this", what is good in my life - really helps. What's been important is consistent practice, and it makes a difference. It's a commitment to myself. There are also many other factors - when I exercise it's easier to think happier thoughts. Endorphins. I feel happier. When I'm rested, when I sleep well, when I eat well - when I take care of me - it's easier to think happier thoughts.
