I deal with this often as a night shift worker at a psychiatric hospital. When I start feeling sleepy I can overcome this by doing one of several things: I get up and walk around; I get a big glass of cold water; I try doing some stretches; and I talk with one of my coworkers.

Deep breathe can wake you up.

Sleep is essential to us. It refreshes the mind, body and soul. The only way to cope is to stay healthy as losing sleep will take a heavy toll on the body. Another thing to consider is the toll on your mind. A strong mind and body could help cope only for a bit, but regular sleep is best.

Healthy sleep habits are incredibly important. If it's unsafe to go to sleep where you are, PLEASE do whatever you can to get yourself out of that situation. If you are under 18, you can be placed with family or friends. If you are over 18, you can contact Victim Advocates at your local police station. They can help you find employment as well as affordable housing, and other mental health services - whatever you need.
