I'm an aspiring counselor, working in healthcare and studying psychology, I have lived in several countries/continents and gone through many life and health struggles, and found that a supportive person nearby is far more worth than any material wealth. Over the years, I've received help from many people, and would like to forward the kindness to anyone who's currently in need.

Women's health: annual check-ups and other scary stuff

...See more While many of us might be living in great communities with a plethora of information about how to take care of ourselves and an ability to easily access a medical professional to check our reproductive and overall health, please remember, that it might not be the case for everyone we're chatting with here on 7Cups. Based on where we live, what family or culture we grow up in, how supportive and informative the adults around us have been, there can still be a lot of tabus, stigmas and unknowns when talking about women's health. Many might not be open to hearing about it let alone discuss it, however, I'd like to suggest a little movement. It doesn't have to be on 7Cups because we're not here to give advice. But we're here to support each other. As someone who knows far too well how it feels to be scared to schedule a gyno appointment, how easy it is to postpone it because of having an insurance, and what change it can make to have a little encouragement - please encourage your friends to seek professional medical check-ups! Not everywhere (sadly), but in many places all over the world free clinics are available for women, such as Planned Parenthood, for example. Encourage each other to get regular check-ups, share information on how to access services, care for your sisters, friends and neighbors. Our health is not a taboo, and we can help to destigmatize it one little step at a time.

Women without kids

...See more Many of us experience a lot of pressure from others who don't spare their views on what we should do with our bodies and what they think should be the purpose of our lives. If you are someone without kids/undecided/struggling with shielding yourself from all of the opinions out there - you're not alone. While this is a very personal question, feeling support from other women can sometimes be crucial. What has your experience been and how do you stay true to yourself despite all of the "you should!" getting thrown at you?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Support
Women's Issues / by ElinaLV

...See more As someone who has undergone several years of breast cancer treatment I wanted to give shout-out to all the wonderful people (mostly women though) who are battling this all over the world. According to the World Health Organization, this is the most common cancer in women in most countries globally, every year over 2 million women get diagnosed (and how many don't!), and "roughly half of all breast cancers occur in women with no specific risk factors other than sex and age". The good news is, that the treatment options are being developed and, in many cases, it is possible to continue our lives with medical adjustments. However, there is shortage of medical diagnostics or very limited access to treatment in many places, and many families suffer because of this illness. As a listener here, I just wanted to kindly remind to be empathetic to one another: you may never know what the person you're talking to is going through, many illnesses can be "invisible". And while they bring many physical challenges, it is also emotionally taxing and exhausting. In case you are going through treatment, or someone close to you is, or you are a fellow listener who wonders what to say or not say when supporting someone dealing with breast cancer, I would be glad to share my humble experience. I am just one of many, many million cancer survivors, and our experiences can be very different, so I cannot provide advice or "this is how it is for everyone" knowledge, but I might have some insight as someone with a first-hand experience. Career change after 40
35 & Over Community / by ElinaLV

...See more Hi everyone! I'm a new Listener and have recently embarked on a new career journey and hope to become a mental health counselor one day. Long story short, I'm 40+, couldn't find a decent job in my previous profession (being an immigrant did not help), so I've decided to go back to school and shift my path completely. I'm wondering if there are any other career changers here who are working survival jobs, studying, dealing with life and not fitting in the societal labels/boxes of "things we should have achieved by 40"? 💚

...See more Hey, hey, just checking in! I'm new here and was wondering if there are any other "older" students here who have decided to start/go back to school after 40? I'm 43 and made a decision to study again, but it has been quite challenging at times to navigate life/work/studies, while also keep believing that I'm not "too old" to make a change in my life and that I've made the right decision. Just wondering how others are handling this?
