I’m a retired writer who spend time weaving and gardening. My daughter is 10yo and I live with her father, tho we never married. I believe only love can save this world - love in all its beautiful forms.  Diversity makes the Earth go round, compassion is the difference between good and evil. Feminism is a powerful, inclusive force. Neurodivergent brains are beautiful. Multiple Sclerosis is a bummer, but it will not bring me down. 😉

How do I help my 10yo with her anxiety attacks

...See more In the beginning it was hard. But now we’ve learn — First I help her realise that’s whats happening. Second, I hold her hands and help her with her breathing - deep and slow. Third she focus on feeling her breath and realises she’s here, now, and she’s safe Forth - and this may take some time - she cries if she needs and she names her tears “this are tears of fear”, or “these are tears of stress” So I wait until she calms down and when I see she’s a wee better I ask If I can hug her. When she’s ok to be hugged I tell her I love her and I’m here, she’s not alone. She may cry a little longer but buy now she’s present again. Now we’re working on strategies on how to calm her down when I’m not present. It’s being a long journey. But we’re making progress. I love her with all my heart. And love wins everything.

...See more Back in the day when I was a kid life was real hard for me. Now I’m invested in making it different for her. So I’m using my own experience to make sure I can raise her in an home that not only understands her challenges but appreciates them. Our routine has space for happy fidgeting, piles of things are considered organised ways of keeping them, post-its substitute calendars and all things that will make our lives easier are welcome. It’s messy, but it’s the way we are. We’re different, yes. But we’re also compassionate and kind. Have a feral sense of justice and our friends are for life. Most of all, we learned to be kind to ourselves, as all neurodivergent people should be. I’m very happy with what I’m able to provide to her - all things I did not have when I was growing up. So if you feel missunderstood, drop me a message. Let’s talk about it. Maybe I can help you find a way to express your own difficulties better to the ones you love. I hope for a kinder world.
