Not sure if I should still be friends with my BFF
Relationship Stress / by SheenaDerp

...See more Ive been friends with this person for almost 8 years now, and I dont know if I want to continue being friends with her. Our relationship has always been very big sister/little sister since there is an age gap between us (Im 23 and shes 19.) We originally met through our parents knowing each other, at 16(me)/12(her.) Her personality has always been very princess-like. Shes extremely needy, and shes not very self-reliant. I used to not really care, because I often enjoyed her company and conversation, that I was able to ignore it. But it doesnt feel like that anymore. As of the past year, shes been driving me nuts. I feel as though that side of her has just gotten more and more incessant, that our relationship has become more mother/daughter. I already have a lot of personally responsibilities taking care of my younger siblings and my dad (whose health has declined this year.) Hanging out with her was always my way of escaping that responsibility, even for a moment. Ive told her that I cant stand her attitude and that Ive been feeling more and more like a mother than a friend, and she thinks its hilarious. She just laughs in my face and says its funny how upset I am about it. Ever since then, our conversations dont feel genuine to me anymore. I feel as though Im forcing myself to talk normally, and I hate it. Im not sure what to do or how to feel about it since weve been friends for so long.
