Not sure if I should still be friends with my BFF
Ive been friends with this person for almost 8 years now, and I dont know if I want to continue being friends with her.
Our relationship has always been very big sister/little sister since there is an age gap between us (Im 23 and shes 19.) We originally met through our parents knowing each other, at 16(me)/12(her.)
Her personality has always been very princess-like. Shes extremely needy, and shes not very self-reliant. I used to not really care, because I often enjoyed her company and conversation, that I was able to ignore it. But it doesnt feel like that anymore.
As of the past year, shes been driving me nuts. I feel as though that side of her has just gotten more and more incessant, that our relationship has become more mother/daughter. I already have a lot of personally responsibilities taking care of my younger siblings and my dad (whose health has declined this year.) Hanging out with her was always my way of escaping that responsibility, even for a moment. Ive told her that I cant stand her attitude and that Ive been feeling more and more like a mother than a friend, and she thinks its hilarious. She just laughs in my face and says its funny how upset I am about it. Ever since then, our conversations dont feel genuine to me anymore. I feel as though Im forcing myself to talk normally, and I hate it.
Im not sure what to do or how to feel about it since weve been friends for so long.

You are growing up and that is part of the maturity process. She might not understand it now but she will eventually. I know you have spoken to her and she found it hilarious. Try talking to her about it again and maybe you can have a different approach just to show her you are being serious about the matter. You might have been friends at a certain point but you started showing different interest and you are actually needing now a friend/friend relationship, someone who can listen and understand what you are going thru on a daily basis. I mean that's what friendship is all about. I wish I can say that you can slowly pull yourself out but it can be hurtful if it was not properly communicated.
I hope things will turn out well for you to stay on mutual grounds with her.
@SheenaDerp It may be that your friendship has run its course. I'm not sure if you're in school or not but the ages are also key: people around your age might be finishing school and people around her age might be starting college.
And even if you're not, it's not a surprise. She may still have a maturity process to go through and this is just a really rough period for the two of you right now.
It could also very well be that your friendship is over and you've grown apart. We're not there so we couldn't say (heck, you might be able to say either) but you're not wrong to feel this way. And she's also not necessarily wrong, but just immature.
Hope this helps! Good luck.

Seeing in through my own selfish eyes, please don't judge me but I'd advise you to not lose this friend for an ego game. So many years, you trust each other, maybe it's time for some challenges and who knows, after that your relationship would be stronger if you try and not give up on her.
Just my opinion though. Idk it makes sense to not give up on her.
