Looking for Support and Advice: Could My 5-Year-Old Have ADHD or Just Be Very Active?

...See more Hi parents, I’m reaching out because I really need some support and advice from those who might have walked a similar path. I have a 5-year-old daughter who has a speech delay and is extremely active. By “active,” I mean she literally never seems to get tired — she always wants to be doing something and can’t sit still or stay quiet for more than a few minutes without getting bored. She started school late because it was so hard to find a school that truly understood her. Many mistook her energy for stubbornness. Thankfully, we finally found a place that accepts her as she is. She absolutely loves books — we never have to push her to do homework. As long as she has books around, she’s engaged and happy. Believe it or not, she started reading before she turned 2, mostly teaching herself with the help of videos we downloaded. It’s been a challenging journey raising her. Her speech delay made communication really tough for years. But we’ve made huge progress — she can now say a lot more and even answer questions! Just recently, I got up from the bed and she asked, “Want to poo?” I said, “No, I want to pee,” and it felt like such a small but beautiful victory. Now, some people have mentioned that she might have ADHD. I’ve done a lot of research, and the only symptom that fits is hyperactivity. She’s not impulsive or inattentive — just full of energy. We have an appointment with a pediatrician next week, but while we wait, I’d love to hear from experienced parents or caregivers: Has anyone had a similar experience with a high-energy child? How did you know if it was ADHD or just their personality? Did speech delays affect how your child was evaluated? I’m really trying my best, but I worry a lot and want to support her the right way. Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts.

Coping with stress of marriage

...See more It all started when I began to expand my social circle—after being married for four years. Until then, my primary focus had always been my daughter: caring for her, ensuring she was okay, and dedicating all my time and energy to her. I was so immersed in motherhood that I didn’t realize how much I needed companionship or someone else to share my thoughts with. I experienced a long period of depression after childbirth due to the drastic changes in lifestyle. Trust me, adjusting was far from easy. Four years later, I started working and met friends within my area of specialization. I also gained mentors—many of them men—who were kind, supportive, and understanding. Some knew I was married, others didn’t. At one point, I had a brief crush on one of them, but it faded after I completed my training with him, and we eventually stopped communicating. Over time, I developed a close friendship with another man. I shared everything with him—family issues, childhood experiences, concerns, and more. Eventually, I developed strong feelings for him and found it hard to get him off my mind. One day, I texted him, saying: “I love you so much and I’m trying to get you out of my head. I know I’m not supposed to feel this way, but I do, and it’s really affecting me. Please give me some time to get myself together.” It was truly a struggle. We managed to stop talking on the phone for just two days. During that time, I wrote a lot of poems about him—I simply couldn’t stop thinking about him. When we resumed talking, the feelings became mutual. He listened when I opened up about my emotional struggles, and his response made me fall for him even more. I kept my feelings hidden for months because I didn’t want to ruin our relationship. But when it started affecting me again, I told him that I couldn’t stop loving him. His voice alone was enough to stir my emotions. He was understanding and told me, “There’s nothing not to love about me.” He asked what he could do to help me get over it, but truthfully, there was nothing he could do. My husband was uncomfortable with our relationship, but I didn’t care much—because he had his own female friends he regularly communicated with. That started less than a year after I gave birth, although I only found out when our daughter was already two. I was hurt and jealous for years, but every time I brought it up, I was made to feel like the problem. Eventually, I stopped discussing it. Having someone like this male friend, who truly understood me, helped me feel seen—until I developed deeper feelings. Meanwhile, my husband maintained his relationships with multiple female friends and expected me to be okay with it, which I’m not. My male friend and I haven’t spoken for the past four months. It has been a painful sacrifice because I, too, want someone who truly understands me. The truth is—I miss him deeply. But I’m trying to do what’s right by keeping my distance and only checking in occasionally. As for my husband, his friendships with other women continue, and it affects me mentally—to the point that I’ve considered separation. I genuinely want us to go back to the way we used to be, but it’s hard when he’s not willing to make any sacrifices for our relationship. What do you think I should do?

My silence struggle

...See more Am I alone in this? I have a 5-year-old daughter who is hyperactive. She has a speech delay that affects her communication. It took us a long time to get to where we are now. I mean, unlike before, if you asked her something, she wouldn’t respond. She found it hard to tell us exactly what she wanted—whether she was hungry or thirsty. Now that I’m starting to enjoy her company more than ever, I found out I’m pregnant again—something I never imagined would happen to me. I haven’t even gotten the chance to fully understand or bond with my daughter. I considered terminating the pregnancy, but my conscience wouldn’t let me. At this point, it’s too late for that, so it’s no longer an option. The problem now is that I’m not even excited. I feel like the whole world is against me. I haven’t healed from the first experience. Because of my daughter’s hyperactivity, it took us three years to teach her that nighttime is for sleeping. Thinking about how far we’ve come and the thought of starting all over again is weighing heavily on me. Have you ever felt this way? How did you overcome these feelings?
