Bio

My name is Asher, and I valued empathy and emotional awareness from a young age. Even as a child, I naturally found myself being a comforter by listening to others, offering reassurance, and staying present when someone was struggling. Over time, this habit has grown into a genuine commitment to supporting people with care and intention. During school retreats and community experiences, I often find myself following my teachers and pastors. I spent time talking with others about their stories, challenges, and successes, learning how meaningful it can be simply to listen without judgment. I notice that when people share both their struggles and their joys, I feel a sense of connection by experiencing sorrow with them in difficult moments and happiness with them in moments of growth. I find deep fulfillment in being a listener for others, and I am motivated to join this organization because I believe everyone deserves a safe and supportive space. It would be my passion to contribute my time and care to helping others feel heard, understood, and less alone.

Communication skills

...See more Hello everyone, I think the biggest reason we misunderstand each other is because most of the time we assume the other person knows what we are thinking. Especially when we are emotional, we expect someone to know that we are upset, stressed, or disappointed without actually telling them. And when they don't understand, we get frustrated even though we never explained how we felt. I also think many arguments happen because people sometimes listen to respond instead of understand. To put simply, we are already thinking about what we want to say next before even considering the other person's point. I know so many times I argued with someone, and instead of trying to understand what they were saying, I was already thinking of counterarguments to say. When we become so focused on proving our point we consequently stop trying to understand theirs. Something I noticed is that good communication is not about saying the perfect thing, instead its about being honest, listening carefully, and making sure the other person feels heard. Kind of like 7cups.  I think communication is one of the most important skills because our relationships depends on it. The way we communicate with each other can bring people closer together or push them apart. Have you ever had a misunderstanding with someone that could have been avoided if both of you had communicated better?

Presence

...See more Hello everyone,  I think one of the hardest things to do today is to actually be present because we are always doing many things at once. We eat while we watch youtube, talk to someone while checking our phones, and even study while thinking about something entirely different. We may be physically present, but our minds seem to be somewhere else. I think its both interesting and sad how we do not notice how much we actually miss. Have you ever gone somewhere fun but spent most of the time trying to take pictures instead of actually enjoying the moment? Have you ever had a conversation with someone but realized later that you did not fully listen or even remember what they said because you were not paying attention without realizing it? But I think being present does not mean that we have to completely remove technology from our lives. I think being present means giving our full attention to what is happening RIGHT NOW. By being present IN THE MOMENT, we can make a simple conversation much more meaningful and a normal day more memorable. I think presence is something we have to practice everyday in our lives. It is so easy to get caught up thinking about the past and worrying about the future but we should all learn to slow down and pay attention to the little things around us to help us appreciate the small things we usually overlook. What is a small thing in your daily life that you started appreciating after becoming more present?

Appreciation

...See more I used to think appreciation just meant saying thank you, but now I know it's much more than that. Appreciation is noticing the things we normally take for granted. This could be a friend checking in on us or having the opportunity to learn something new. I realized that we need to LOOK for things to appreciate to find it. There are so many things we take for granted but if we truly stop for a moment and take a look at our lives, there are so many things we need to appreciate. Whens the last time you appreciated having a bathroom? Appreciation stems from intention not signals. If you feel obliged to show your appreciation, you are not truly appreciative. Whats something you didn't appreciate until you lost it?

Perspective Skills

...See more I think perspective is interesting because two people can experience the exact same event but remember it completely differently and take something completely different from it. But that doesn't always mean one person is wrong because everyone has had different experiences that slowly shaped their own perception of the world. I think learning to understand another person's perspective is one of the hardest thing to achieve, but also the most valuable, when you want to truly get to know another person Has anyone ever changed your mind about something you were completely confident you were right about?
