Communication skills
Hello everyone,
I think the biggest reason we misunderstand each other is because most of the time we assume the other person knows what we are thinking. Especially when we are emotional, we expect someone to know that we are upset, stressed, or disappointed without actually telling them. And when they don't understand, we get frustrated even though we never explained how we felt.
I also think many arguments happen because people sometimes listen to respond instead of understand. To put simply, we are already thinking about what we want to say next before even considering the other person's point. I know so many times I argued with someone, and instead of trying to understand what they were saying, I was already thinking of counterarguments to say. When we become so focused on proving our point we consequently stop trying to understand theirs.
Something I noticed is that good communication is not about saying the perfect thing, instead its about being honest, listening carefully, and making sure the other person feels heard. Kind of like 7cups.
I think communication is one of the most important skills because our relationships depends on it. The way we communicate with each other can bring people closer together or push them apart.
Have you ever had a misunderstanding with someone that could have been avoided if both of you had communicated better?

You make great points 🥰
Yes, sometimes you have your argument ready before you even hear the end of the conversation.
It's important to take a breath
Listen.
And not react.
It's definitely a skill that requires us to work on 💛

@goldenFlamingo9717 Hey, I am so glad that you posted this thread; miscommunication often leads to misunderstandings that could've been avoided. I used to have this issue when working on the phones at work, and I realized that when communicating with customers, I was using terminology that only people who work in our industry know. So, I worked with a mentor to explain things that an average person would understand and got better at communicating. So, yes, I agree: communication is one of the most important skills.
Yes, It was with my friend.
