Confusion
There is one thing happened with me. I am confused how should I feel about that or whatever I am feeling is that how should I feel ...
So i have a crush on a guy since 3 years (or should I say used to...I don't know, I guess I am on the way of falling out of love with him).
Yeah..
So I was talking to him over call. And we were discussing something. So he told me that he is ordering something for me. And then he asked that he hadn't gifted me anything on my birthday right???
And I felt so disappointed that he doesn't remember that he gifted me something on my birthday. I felt upset.. With him?? No. With me? Super yes...
He said sorry to me that he should have remembered that. I appreciate that.
But at that moment I got the feeling like him gifting me things is not special to him to remember it. And I feel happy and special when I recieved gifts from him but he doesn't even remember what he had gifted me or when he had gifted me.
So what I am feeling is it right or I am just keeping higher expectations or just overthinking????
Hey @adaptablePineapple4366, thank you for sharing this, it makes sense that you're confused and unsure about your reaction. When you care about someone for a long-time even if you're slowly falling out of love, small moments like this can still hit surprisingly hard.
It sounds like you've described a really human support, when someone is special to us we tend to remember the things they've done for us (the gifts, the moments, the details). So when he didn't remember something you felt happy and special about, it's natural that it stung a little. It's not setting too high expectations, but instead you noticing a mismatch between how meaningful the moment was for you vs how it was received by him.
It doesn't mean that he didn't care when he gave you the gift, some people just don't hold onto details the same way. It may be that for him the act of giving is the meaningful part, not the memory of it. But for you, the memory is part of the meaning and that's okay.
You're allowed to feel disappointed without it meaning you're wrong or overthinking. Feelings aren't right or wrong, they just show what something meant to you.
Sometimes these moments also highlight a shift in how connect you feel to someone. You mentioned you might be falling out of love, and sometimes little things like this bring that into focus.
