Feeling trapped

I don't know if this is the place for this topic. I have a job which I don't particularly like, I want to study for a new job but I'm unable to. I've always struggled with this one single problem. I set goals but I literally cannot move towards them. It's embarrassing even. It's so difficult to stick to my own decisions. Whenever I sit down to study or do anything I want I feel trapped and my brain just wants to run away. Can anyone relate?

Hey @scarletMoon5654, I'm really glad you posted this. What you described is something so many people struggle with in silence, and I'm glad you've reached out 💜

I can hear how frustrating and embarrassing this feels for you, wanting to move toward a goal, knowing exactly what you want, and then feeling like your brain slams the brakes the moment you sit down to start. That feeling of being stuck can be so frustrating.

It sounds like you’re carrying two things at once: the desire to change your situation, and the feeling of being mentally blocked whenever you try. That trapped feeling you described, the urge to run away the moment you sit down to study is really powerful. A lot of people experience that when something feels overwhelming, or when the pressure to succeed is so strong that even starting feels scary.

You’re not alone in this, and you’re not doing anything wrong. You’re trying to move toward something better, and your brain is reacting in a way that’s confusing and uncomfortable.

If you want, you can talk a bit more about what the trapped feeling is like for you, is it more like panic, boredom, fear, frustration? Or something else entirely? Is there anything that helps when you study?

Sending lots of good wishes to you 💜

@scarletMoon5654 Yeah I feel that a lot as well. I'm really sorry to hear you've been struggling with your job, I hope it gets better.

I too often get this nagging sensation in my head that even if I manage to work up the effort to do anything it'll be useless, because I started too late, because it wont work anyway, because I already made too many mistakes, blah blah... It's infuriating

Have you tried sitting with whatever emotion you feel when you think about starting? Like, seeing what comes up when you're about to try but you end up not doing it
