Coping With Anxiety - Fears of abandonment

Hi, everyone. This is my first time here. I'm Adam. I'll be 39 soon.

I'm having a severe bout of anxiety tonight, and I'd been having a good day before that. I just get severe fear of abandonment triggers, and it doesn't take much to set them off.

It's usually in situations where it isn't called for. Either way, I've just been learning about and trying to cope with mental health issues that have plagued me for a long time.

@Adam2124

Fear of abandonment is an anxiety inducing fear. You mention it's something that triggers you easily and is mostly unpredictable in terms of what sets off that trigger and the severity of your reaction? Am I correct in saying that? You mentioned this anxiety has been with you for a long time now. Do you know when or why the fear of abandonment came about? Is the anxiety something you feel comfortable discussion with your doctor?

Hi! Sorry to get back so late! I don't seem to get notifications for some reason.

Oh yeah, it's been getting bad lately. I was ghosted by a long distance girlfriend in December of 2019. She's occasionally resurfaced since. I now know it was due to her own mental health struggles.

I had the fear of abandonment before then, but didn't know what to call it at the time. If I think back, it's something I've had for a long time.

I have a therapist, but I don't always feel helped. I sometimes feel like I'm just to learn self-love. That's been difficult, to say the least.

I've asked for an MRI from my doctor, but I shouldn't have specified that I wanted to see if I had borderline personality disorder. They wanted to put me on a medication and stopped returning my calls. I just need to go back.

I was diagnosed with dependent personality disorder and general anxiety disorder, but I feel there's more to the story. It could possibly be autism as well, as it presents similarly.
