Trying to help myself but made a mess
I’m middle aged. Never got where I wanted to be in my career. No relationship or marriage. Can’t find anyone I even like. Soooo I decided to return to graduate school for a second career .
things have changed in 18 years since I was in school last but I wasn’t aware . I’m in a hybrid program that starts off mostly online. I’m in my first semester and my instructor held on to 5 of my grades , charging me with plagiarism for using quotes . I’m mortified , ashamed and scared. I didn’t think I was plagiarizing. However it is my fault because I never really read her syllabus that states that quotes even with citations is cheating.
My family who is very toxic ( another issues entirely ) isn’t supportive of me. They doesn’t believe me. Say I’m a loser, a liar, mentally ill.
I’m so sad. Worst part is I’m a psychologist. I can’t help myself. I try to make changes to improve my life and things get worse. I just don’t know what to do .

A lot of that resonates with me. I'm cleaning things up lately (internally and externally), and it always dredges up an emotional residue on the things I thought should have been simple and easy, but the "simple" things tend to each balloon into ten cumbersome things. I have a stack of partial to-do lists, for example, and going through them seems both necessary and frustrating beyond reason. Just the easiest seeming things becoming over-complicated because of the dumbest little snags that would never have happened if society didn't go off the deep end.
