23yrs WASTED

After 23yrs of ups and downs, my partner and I broke up. He cheated I took him back each time, he had a baby, I accepted it. I texted another man and had an emotional affair we never met up. He found out and left me. After he left he began to make up untrue things about me and throw them in my face to hurt me. He tried to convince my family I'm a W%%$E. Took my car and basically told me I'm worthless, untrustworthy and a word that rhymes with floor.

I'm devastated because I've loved this man half of my life and have no idea how to recover. My self esteem is SO LOW. In all of this I wrestle with thoughts of wanting to reconcile with him.

I'm a mess..... I need to know I can be ok

Sounds like he gass lighted you badly. I'm sorry that happened. I am sure you will find a less abusive partner. You are worthy of more. He may not have made you feel worthy. But you are more than worthy. I have been doing self-esteem work. And the more you do it the more it feels good to give and nurture yourself. I am single too. I am enjoying my single season. You know when people say they needed to find themselves. I'm doing that right now. I have been doing many different therapies. And just enjoying learning my new sense of self. It is hard at first to really spend time loving yourself when so much in our lives can make us feel less than. I joined this app because it has the free listeners. But I noticed it has other features to help build self esteem. Help with meditation. I'm going to try them out. I hope you have a great day

The good news is that you're going to be OK, and you're going to recover from this. It may not be easy and each day may be a struggle, but time puts distance between what happened in the past and now, and it's going to get easier to move forward.

You need to first be able to forgive yourself for any past mistakes. You were in a different situation than you are today. We sometimes do things we didn't wish we had when we are under pressure and not getting our needs met.

You're under no obligation to continue to pay any attention to anything your ex has said. You're also not under any obligation to forgive him for what he's said and done. You might do so one day, even if he never apologizes, just so you can be at peace with yourself, but don't let what he says and does hold you back.

Also, I hate to say it, if he is physically or verbally harassing you, consider getting a restraining order. It may not put a check on everything he's doing but it will at least serve to put some physical distance between the two of you and lessen the impact of his actions on you.

This isn't the end of your journey, it's just the end of a relationship. You're going to recover. Pinkie swear. You've got a community here to support you.

I'm really sorry for you! It's really hard! First of all yes you will be okay for sure! You will its life there are always ups and downs and there will never be something called a perfect life or anything cause we all like this living our ups and downs

First of all, he doesn't deserve you at all someone with this amazing heart and personality like you! It's his loss, not yours believe me it's for the best for you

God loves you so much because he let you see how bad this person is! For you! So he put you in this hard situation to let you see how bad this person is for you no matter how much you love him but love can destroy you too

He doesn't respect you he doesn't appreciate what you did and what you gave up things to be with him

Let's assume you are both now with each other again and you both give each other another chance it will be hard believe me! Cause with the first problem he will call you a w….again and there will be a lot of trust issues between you two

The question here are you going to be happy with this life with this disrespect? No for sure...think about it and value yourself you matter to us we love you be strong don't let anyone break you to call you things that you are not

There are a million men in this world and you are going to find someone who really appreciates you and respects you

I'm really sorry you're going through this. After spending so much of your life with someone, it's completely natural to feel lost and devastated when things fall apart, especially in such a painful way. It can feel like your world is crashing down, but it’s important to remember that you *can* get through this, even though it may seem impossible right now.

Your self-esteem has taken a serious hit, but please try to separate his words and actions from your sense of self-worth. What he's doing—blaming, shaming, and trying to undermine your value—is more a reflection of his own issues than of you. You are not what he says you are. You’re someone who has loved deeply and tried to make things work, even in incredibly difficult circumstances.

Recovery is going to take time, and that’s okay. It might help to start by focusing on self-care and surrounding yourself with people who genuinely care about you. Therapy or counseling can also be a valuable tool to help you rebuild your self-esteem and navigate through the complex emotions you're experiencing.

It's natural to have thoughts of reconciliation, but it's important to consider whether that would truly be the best thing for you in the long term. You deserve to be with someone who values and respects you, and it's worth asking yourself if your ex has consistently shown that kind of care.

Right now, focus on small steps. Take each day as it comes, and remind yourself that you *will* get through this. It won’t happen overnight, but healing is possible. You're not alone in this, and reaching out, as you have, is a strong step toward finding your way forward.

@CagedBird83 I am truly sorry to hear this. I really am. If you need support and a place to chat, we have chatrooms here at 7cups. We also have listeners here at 7cups, as well. As far as being ok, that is a hard question to answer. What is ok for some, is different for others. It will take time. How much time? I really do not know. I hope things get better for you. I am sorry, this person was not nice to you. People, can be hard to figure out sometimes. Just, when you think, you know them, you really do not know them.  I am sorry, I cannot help you further. I tried my best.
