Some guidance for a Novice!

Great to have another listener!

What I recommend is simply taking the members lead.

Not interjecting until you need to.

They often guide you.

Being honest.

Being yourself.

Be clear about how long you can be online during a chat, so you dont sign off mid chat.

Its about quality not quantity.

Some topics are  challenging, so you need to take breaks for your own send care.

Never be afraid to suggest another listener if the topic is beyond your reach.

Dont take things personally.

Sometimes we are not people's fit and they ghost us or sometimes even block us prior to even chatting!

Everyone has a different preference.

Its important to also just remain firm in your boundaries.

Respect both ways makes the difference.

Welcome along :) Was there anything specific you wanted to know? I'm newish too but have done this before elsewhere.

Chats can really vary from one to the next. Try not to burn yourself out. Don't take it personally if the chat doesn't go well, it just wasn't the right fit.

Keep a healthy distance, don't overshare unless it's relevant, you're not trying to be their bestie, but a stranger who will support them.

With stilted chats that are difficult, I find asking questions sometimes helps to open them up so you can understand their needs better.

It's up to you how you do it, I find talking to one person at a time is better and if there are queues or messages waiting, I just answer one by one and apologise and say I'm in a chat but will get back to them or they are free to reach out for someone else.

I suggest going over the courses and guides available to get some idea.

Also getting a mentor will help you too.

Get yourself verified as a listener as well. It'll help you grow as a listener.

Take breaks between each session to clear your head and when it starts to get overwhelming. Take a break from listening.
