I ask myself this everyday for the past year. I am 41/m, professional, 2’nd marriage , 2 kids, living in a nice house, great income. These are the best years of life….

so why am I so miserable?

been in and out of therapy

struggling with Unaffectionate , unsuspportive partner

fantasize about wanting to live the most out of life

is it wrong to stay in it for the lifestyle? The kids?

I may add to this post but this is my struggle….

You’re unhappy. That’s normal! Seek couples therapy for your marriage please. Be open and communicate with your partner about your feelings. It requires work but you both must be committed.

I was in your shoes. With some minor difference. I decided to open up to my husband and to try if we can rekindle our relationship. I'll tell you, it's been so hard. I started this at the very beginning of this year and we got past several issues. It's gotten better, and we even got our intimacy back. There still are lingering issues to work on, though. For my husband many of those come from place of feeling inadequate, low self-esteem and low self-image. For me, making an effort to really dig down and understand what's going on beneath the surface, and adress those issues in a loving, non judgmental and supprtive way. And, this time I got everything right. Although there are setbacks here and there, I am for the first time really hopeful.

The real struggle is to overcome the built up resentment. Took me a while to get past that. And I intentionally made myself to think about us, who we were as a couple, how good we were together back when we met. How our intimate life looked like, our communication, things we did together. And that is the specific thing that helped me get past resentment. All of those bottled up emotions came to surface and I realized I feel like that because I really love my husband and the resentment is not towards him but how life pushed us in so many things, so many hurdles, so much pain and disappointments. And then over time I started feeling in love with him. Like a teenager.

Hope things look better on your side, too.
