Coping with home improvements
Hi,
I was hoping someone could help me process what I'm feeling.
I've had a bit of work done on my house and I feel like it isn't right. The stress and anxiety is crippling me.
I'm sure things will ultimately be ok but I'm currently in a pit and don't know what to do for the best.
The work has cost a fair bit of money so just getting someone else or the same people to do the work again will likely be starting from scratch so isn't a fantastic option.
I think part of my problem is coming from having to call the people back to say after looking at it again I'm not entirely satisfied with the work.
I was anxious about getting this work done and feel like I've just fallen into the same cycle again. It just makes me not want to deal with any house issues in the future and just give up.
Any help or words of advice would be really appreciated as I don't feel like I've got anyone to turn to
Hey Tidy,
I fully understand the stress associated with home improvements and poor/lousy work done by technicians and construction workers.
I also understand the anxiety associated with confronting them about their poor performances because many gate being criticized and are quite thin skinned.
However, remind yourself that you have a contract that they ought to fulfill to the fullest extent and in proper quality. They are not doing it as a favor or for free to be nice. They are offering a service for money and you can expect them to act professionally and with competence. Remember also that reacting now by stating your grievances will save you lots of headaches and problems in the future with the house.
Also be very clear and point out what has to be fixed and insist otherwise on legal grounds that you will be forced to take legal action if they do not fulfill their contract properly.
Also know that minor blemishes are just normal in any renovating process and are not worth the hassle. Some things you can fix yourself with little efforts at a home crafts store.
hope this helps
