Getting over embarrassing memories
Hello everyone. I hope all of you are having a good time.
I have never done this before so sorry for the introduction.
I have a trouble getting over an awkward and embarrassing situations that i have been through..i would think about some embarrassing memories and i overthink it to the point where i feel stressed and can't focus on my day...I'm not exaggerating when I say i relive a memories that happened to me on my childhood when i was 7 years old and i relieve it for hours or days.
So how do i get over those memories and moments?
I definitely can identify with this, I don’t think we ever really get over these kinds of things but can try to rationalise the memories as adults and objectify them through analysis and processing, in a way that serves you better in your life, and try change your perception of the memory viewing it not as a frightening and confused child but as an loving and compassionate adult caring for that child… I think it’s about learning forgiveness to yourself and/or others and accepting that you need to start letting this go. ❤️
@passionateNorth2259 same, so sorry ☹️we just have to forgive and let go

I further assume these memories are embarrassing and uncomfortable, but not traumatic. You can't forget what happened, but you can process emotions that you had. When you successfully process them, you can talk about what happened without feeling as if it happens again. You can try to process them in different ways:
1. Talking about them again and again in details. With each time, the emotions should become a bit less intense.
2. Focusing on body sensations. If you identify visceral representation of emotions and focus on them, they will become more intense at first. If you don't fight them and just let them be there, they release and become less intense.
3. Positive reappraisal. Try to see those situations in a different, more positive light. Work on this until your emotions about the situation change.
4. EMDR. Try desensitization techniques.
5. Writing / painting etc. Try to express your emotions with art. Repeat until emotions are processed.
I hope this helps :)
