Hi,

44/m fat ugly, socially anxious, depressed. I need someone to convince me my life has some worth. I don't mean just asserting "you are worthy" without any logical explanation. I need logical reasoning to convince me the world has any use of me being in it.

@WorthlessAddict76 Hello! Anxiety and depression have a way of making it hard to see our worth. It also makes it hard for others to convince us that we are worthy. Sometimes we have a mental image of who we want to be and how we want others to see us. Unfortunately, these are often some what unrealistic.

Worth isn't defined by age or looks. It isn't defined by money or possessions.

What are your strengths? They can be anything. Maybe you've got a way with animals or maybe you're good at art. Focus on things you excel at, try not to focus on where you see shortcomings.

This place can be a good space to work on the social anxiety you have. It takes courage to make the first couple of posts. I apologize that this isn't much help. I know it can be incredibly hard to find your worth but I do believe you can find it. People here will help as much as possible.

@TheFisherKing

Thank you for your support. I am not good at anything. I am mediocre at best.

@WorthlessAddict76 There's absolutely nothing wrong with mediocre. It's something that can be built on and developed if you want to. A lot of people start things just because they have an interest in some thing, with practice they might develop what they like into a talent. Some people may not have any talent for something but they still do it because they simply enjoy doing it.

I battled with low self esteem for a while due to childhood trauma. But I just wanted you to know that others care. I know you mentioned that you’re not good at anything, but I think we’re all good at something. Perhaps your journey will be about finding it. In the meantime, what do you love? What brings you joy? Maybe focusing on how you can bring yourself joy will help at least a little. I’m rooting for you. 💙

I could have written this. Just know you are not alone. There are good days, so I hope good days to come. Find a hobby or something you like. I feel like a jack of all trades master of none. However it keeps me occupied.

When you say you are not good at anything, it ties back to your feelings of worthlessness and perpetuates the cycle. Have you considered that maybe it's just you thinking that other people think you're not good at anything? We can trick ourselves like that sometimes. I've struggled with feelings of not being worthy ever since i was a teen. I'm in my 40s now and I've come to realize that those feelings came from some abandonment issues i had as a child. When you don't feel loved by the people you want to love or the people who you expect to love you, it can trigger a sense of not being a valuable human being. I've been rejected by people many times and the experience has made it difficult for me to feel like I'm worthy of anything, especially love. What has been working for me so far is developing a sense of self that is not tied to another person. To be my own person, so to say. To have my own wants, interests, and things that i do for myself because i simply enjoy them, and not because I'm watching whether people will reflect back to me the value of these things and deem me worthy. I think of it as proactively building my own worth. I hope this helps.
