Kind words needed
Hey all. I'm pretty new to this site and love it so far. I'm a 41 year old male from Ohio. I'm a nurse. In the past 6 months I've lost my dad, who was my best friend. My mom was diagnosed with cancer and 2 weeks ago I started a new job. Super stressed out and leaning on alcohol and gambling for relief. I just feel so numb to the world right now and need to snap out of it. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Hey, I know about losing a parent who is also your best friend, I too lost my mom this Jan , numbing the pain doesn't help, it comes back three fold. We should try to let out the pain then and there whenever we can .. you will feel the weight lifting off slowly.. I did
And about things that we can't control or change, don't overthink, what next attitude helps.. it will give peace to our parents too , letting them know they raised us well and we won't break
@Bonfiremck Quit It! Find a new friend at work, or get a puppy. Shoot, get a few puppys. Come out of the fog, cause life will leave you behind. I'm not even 40, been drunk 20 years.
Hey there! I’m 37 female and have been through quite a few life changes in the past year. I also work in healthcare and we know how stressful this industry has been 😅 I, myself have been struggling with coping negatively and drinking a couple of nights a week. I’m very sorry to hear about your parents. Try to be easy on yourself and know that this feeling won’t last forever. If you drink 4 nights a week, try to cut down to 3 for a few weeks, then two. Exercise, even a tiny bit. Hang in there friend!
Hi there. i am actually from Ohio too.. i cannot say i understand your situation my mom is my best friend and when i will lose her, i don't know how i'll be able to deal with it. i don't think im wise enough to give you any advice im 30 but i just want to say hang in there and hope this helps
@Bonfiremck
Hi, dear. I hope you will find your solutions soon enough. When I'm at my lowest points, I just imagine what my future would be when all those troubles are over. I will see myself as independent, free, and more powerful. Then I retrace from that future point to present point and try to plan little steps that I could afford. There's just gotta be a way. There's gotta be a way for you, too.
I lost my dad on November. I am still not over it. I have been 3 weeks sober and it seems to help me at least pay attention to the people still alive around me. Good luck and I hope you find your path.
