Loneliness
I’ve recently lost my job. I worked there for 15 years. I’m very shy, so making connections is very difficult for me. Now, I don’t have work interactions. I’ve been single a very long time. I was divorced about 10 years ago. I’ve begun to think that maybe I’m just not “likable.” I’ve been trying to figure out for years how to accept loneliness, but hope always seems to interfere. There’s always the same outcome. I’ll get hopeful. Download a dating app. Go on dates with a guy and realize that he isn’t really interested in me. That I’m not girlfriend material. I also don’t have friends. I don’t know why. I hate that I am so flawed that no one can want to spend time with me. But I don’t know what to do. Anyway, loneliness is hard. I feel dumb and lame posting my pity party, but maybe there’s someone to talk to.
Hi. You are not dumb or lame. I'm sure you're very likable. It sounds like you are very self sufficient, which can appear as standoffish to others - I have this issue. I'm sorry you lost your job, that cannot feel good. Are you working on finding something else? Or taking time off? What activities/hobbies do you pursue that make you feel better about yourself? Loneliness can be very difficult, write back :))
