I would like to hear from people what they think of my situation, I'm close to divorce because my wife is just too close to her family and they influence basically since we got married

Hi. That is a big thing. Not easy to say out loud either. It’s hard being in the middle of significant other and their family. I’m here to talk if you want to message me. ❤️

@Fairandsquare if her family is toxic and influences her to the point that she is no longer making her own decisions, then by all means, leave, man. You're financially independent I'm assuming so there really shouldn't be anything holding you back. If you have kids, don't stay together just for the kids. Kids know it when marriages aren't working out and would rather see their parents happy than to be together but miserable.

Sorry you are going through this Fairandsquare. I went through the exact same thing. I've been divorced now for about 5 years. My ex husband's family influenced everything about our relationship, our children, even our jobs and education. I know how it feels when you're begging for someone to see you as family but they can't figure out how to include you or respect your boundaries. Let me know if you need to chat.

@Fairandsquare- I'm very pro-marriage. All resources should be exhausted before you visit that possibility. In the culture we live in, 1 out of 2 marriages end up in divorce. 2 out of 3, and 3 out of 4. 2nd and 3rd marriages usually fall apart. You have to do the research. If there are kids involved, likelyhood of them divorcing becomes higher than normal. My wife and I came from broken homes, now we're separated. Her reason after building a life together, 3 kids, she says we married "too young". No legal separation or divorce as of yet, just living separated. 2 kids with her, 1 with me. Financially, we're hemorrhaging. Kids will see "hey, if Mom/Dad divorced, maybe divorce isn't all that bad", on the flip side, they may be scarred from the trauma and never commit. Yes, every situation is different, however, I feel that everything can be worked out unless your suffering from abuse fearing your and your kids safety, there's addiction, or infidelity.

Listen to podcasts from Dr. Joe Beam of marriagehelper.com, or world renowned therapist Esther Perel, or Leila Miller regarding divorce and it's implications and damage done to all involved.

Lastly, it's your decision. This is my 2 cents. I wish you luck and hope things work out.

Take care my friend.

@Fairandsquare How do they make an influence? I have been married to a narcissistic alcoholic for 10 yrs and I have a tiny family. Most of my family has passed away except my lil bro and my mother. He doesn't like me to have friends, so I talk a lot to my mother and he complains about that! So are you just possessive and jealous? I know that a couple needs privacy and their own space, but a suffocating, controlling spouse I have learned over the past 10 years is mentally and emotionally unstable. Look at your contributions first before you blame her.
