Socially awkward

How do I get over my anxiety about interacting with new people. I’ve always been a little socially awkward...just have a hard time with small talk. I feel like I won’t know what to say..how to keep a conversation going. My husband is just the opposite and cannot relate to my issues. He’s inviting some colleagues over for a socially distant get together at our house.

Hi Independent, what are your thoughts on becoming very curious and asking your guests questions about them and their lives? Maybe you can make a list of questions in advance, so you don’t have to try to come up with them all on the spot? And maybe you can ask your husband to help you with this, since he knows his colleagues better?

Hi Joy! Yes, that is what I usually do...ask questions. I don’t usually add much to the conversation though. Would it seem odd? Like an interview? I guess that’s a start

@independentWalker1666, I know it can seem like an interview sometimes. However, if you act genuinely curious and enthusiastic, and ask questions based on what they're saying, I think it will feel more natural. Maybe mix in some related experiences of your own, whenever there's an opportunity, just to connect?
