Socially awkward

I’ve been able to work. But I’ve always felt kind of uneasy being around people that I work with. Like not able to build any deep connections after two years.

I can see that there’s nothing wrong with where I work, because I’ve felt this way all my life... no matter where I worked to went to school.

I moved a lot as a kid. I can remember being super social and confident at early age but things changed since middle school.

I don’t know if I need to change or just stay as who I am.

I’m not sure if I’m unlikable...

@soytorasan

A lot of people feel the way that you do. You're not alone.

This site could probly help you understand that.

There's people you can talk to about it. Don't give up on yourself.

There are like minded and kind people here.

I would say developing deep, personal relationships at work with happen or they don’t.

if you like your job and you are good at it. That’s what’s important - your employees should respect you and have a polite work environment but not obligated to maintain deep friendships. Sometimes by chance it happens but not always.

Keep your job professional and develop more deep connections in relationships and friendships in other places in your life. Maybe a significant other or hobbies.

I would not say you are unlike ale or should change anything specific.

I would say most people are drawn to confidence so maybe you give off a vibe that you are not interested because if your insecurities. Try being genuinely interested in people and less worry about yourself maybe.

Also I moved around as a child also.

I felt it was more difficult to find friends at work because people are judged on performance and professionalism.

Friends are friends. This is why most people put boundaries between their personal life and work life.

I agree with everything you said. I have some good friends outside of work. I’m very grateful for that.

I like my job even though it gets boring sometimes...

It’s just a lot of times I feel like I’m only saying “good morning”, “how are you doing?” back to people. It feels weird. 😂

So I'm not the only one :-)

I kinda feel this way too. I was in a job where i was severely bullied. I quit. I am in a job now that it is not hard or tiring, i like a part of it, and i am the only employee. However my boss who is here every day is treating me like i am her slave almost. I cannot take a day off, i even notified her i had a job to do and would be an hour late, she told me i would repay that hour. I feel kinda depressed and suppressed. Like she forces me to have no life besides that job. Plus i am at this job for over a year now and i still feel uneasy to be with her or talk to her. I don't like her anymore. Or the people at another store she has across the road. I find it difficult to be around these people, i don't know why it is so hard for me.

But i definitely know you are not alone in this, we are plenty. But you know what? I don't think there is anything wrong with us. We are unique in a way. We maybe just have to find a way to pay more attention to us and love us. Maybe then if we feel sure about ourselves and we love us, it will be easier for us to socialize or feel better at our jobs and friendships.

Sorry if some of it may not make sense, i may be self reflecting right now...

Well said. If more people could understand they're not alone and find ways to cope I think it would improve things

Thanks for sharing. From what you described, I don’t think your boss is treating you the way you deserve at all. I think she’s taking all your hard work for granted. I guess there’s pros and cons of working for one supervisor. There’s not as much drama as working with a lot of people, but it could be suffocating at times. Do you have other job options at this moment. I wonder if putting her on the edge of losing you might change the way she treats you? Just a thought.

Hope you had a good day!

@soytorasanShe sure is. Well i am here through a goverment program that ends in the begining of April. After that, if she wants me to stay, i will try and put my rules. If she doesn't agree then i will consider leaving. I am a difficult person maybe, but i want to be somewhere i feel somehow good. The only thing that can take me down is my emotions and psycological state. If i can't manage it, then i suppose i have to step away. I will find another way to pay my bills. It may be extremely hard in my country but i will make a living. I am smart and capable of many things. But i want to be treated with respect.

In my opinion it's not a great idea to get too close to people you work with, if for some reason another job comes up with better benefits you might not take it because going to that job means losing work friends. Or for instance if you lose your job the loss is greater. This may be how the people in your work place feel as well. It may not be you being awkward, it might just be the office culture as well.

My workplace is interesting. A lot of personal connections... I see what you’re saying. But I feel the difficulty of having deeper communication in general. Thanks!

Fair, being excluded can be very difficult, especially when you try to be included. In regards to deeper communication and social interaction/friendships etc. I have the same issue and have tried to make new friends many times and have failed the past 6 years.

Sometimes I feel like I have the super power of ruining a group chat. It happened again yesterday. A new member was added to a group chat with coworkers. The group went from active to complete silent after new member found out I was in that group. So strange...
