Challenge - check-in/forum ideas
Hi all! I am consistently impressed with the check-ins people write here on 7cups but I imagine after a while it can be tough to think of more ideas, so I thought maybe a thread where people can offer thoughts on what might make a good check-in here in the 50+ forum could help give some extra inspiration! If you also have ideas for other forum ideas for 50+ that you would be interested in you can also list those ideas also.
Thank you in advance for all your great ideas.

What is the silliest idea you had that later turned out to be wonderful?
What situation did you dread that when you turned and faced it and just did what you had to, was not that big a deal?
You are sitting in front of your computer screen. What is the thing that appeals to you more than any other even if you cannot do it now?
If you were in a room of people you did not know, what would be some ways to reach out to them?
What would you like to see in the 50+ subcom that you have not yet seen here?
What is your favorite topic to discuss with friends?
What did you do to help other people and how did that make you feel?
@soulsings how about why are you ignored in a chat room? Everyone who entered the 50+ support chat room was greeted. It shouldnt matter but it did. But its ok. I have been trying so hard to be positive here. Im sorry. I will try again another time.
@Lauren63 I am sorry that you were not greeted. Sometimes things get hectic and people are busy typing their next message and they don't see a person saying Hi. I would not be discouraged but keep posting in the open chats.
DIscussions are easier because there are questions and you can always ask "What is the current question?" Hope to see you Wednesday at 8PM EST in the Fifty Plus room.
@DanaMH and @soulsings, do you know what happened to the
@Zengrl do you mean this thread? It is under Check Ins https://www.7cups.com/forum/50plusSupportCommunity_193/Checkin_1704/CozyPlaceFor50Membersandotherstoo_182192/
@soulsings Thanks, it was just not listed on the front page because I had not clicked on the check-in topics. Now I see the mobile site can only show a few threads at a time on the first page. All good ☺️
So even though I complain about not having many friends, Ive noticed that Im not good at reaching out. Thanks to this app Im improving, but I could see how having a check-in about reaching out would be helpful. Maybe its small like saying hi to someone at work or even bigger like inviting someone to lunch. Someone I had dinner with last night told me how much they appreciated going out. It also cant be one—sided. Both parties have to work on communicating.
Does anyone else here have an adult child with mental illness? My major "cross to bear", so to speak, is having a son who struggles daily with mental health. It's exhausting and sad, and maddening and frustrating. He is currently living on his own and caring for his 3 yr old son, but he is in no way independent. I know I'm not alone, but it feels like it sometimes.

Hi, that would be a great post in the challenge section that you can create a new thread. You can click here to get to the section.
@MotherofCats1955 being a caregiver can be challenging. when your own children depend on you, that can be a heavy load to bear.
@DanaMH
Hello, I would like to see a thread about How we show up towards one another. Availability vs Vulnerability.
Meaning a discussion on how we show up to our spouses or to other people. Some of us struggle to reach out to others we don't know which makes us feel vulnerable, and that affects how we show up or our availability to one another. At home and online. We don't like to feel vulnerable which is not comfortable. Digging into thoughts about this might prove to be helpful to those that find it hard to reach out. This can be ongoing. This may not be what you are looking for., and maybe I can't explain the idea well.
@scarletPear1945 this a great idea for a thread. Would you like to collaborate with me and we can write it together? Just send me a PM and we can start working on it www.7cups.com/@soulsings
One question I have is can you put into other words what you mean by show up as ? Is that like the image another person has of us?
@soulsings
Yes, the image we present to others, whether we are sociable, withdrawn, warm, caring, or just unavailable socially or maybe more introverted. I was afraid to enter a chat room because I did not get greeted or all conversation stopped when I entered the room so I felt abandoned and out of place I took it personally when I should have been able to shake it off my mindset crippled me. Thus making me Unavailable and unwanted. I see this happen quite a bit and everyone has no clue how to process that. Then adding to more dysfunctional thinking and feelings. Then we have Lurkers rather than participants. Fear of rejection when we already have our own struggles.
@DanaMH: This is a great iniatiave. keep up the good work :)
