enlightened What are some difficulties you noticed rising up due to menopause?

my moods were a roller coaster!

enlightened What would be some helpful coping mechanisms to face your sympthoms?

it was so helpful to use a tracking app of moods correlation to cycle day and knowing there was a pattern helped me prepare. Also remembering it would soon pass really helped get through tough days.

Thanks LMR! I am happy to be post/menopausal in a lot of ways. Unfortunately it was due to surgical ovary removal, so hormone replacement is a lifesaver for managing symptoms, but is also challenging in itself. Support groups for post-menopause have been the biggest help.

enlightened What are some difficulties you noticed rising up due to menopause? I don't know about ya'll, but I started having to pee in the middle of the night, like seriously. Sometimes I was up twice during the night, which made it hard for me to fall back asleep.

I also started to collect weight around my upper abdomen - no fun at all. Still haven't found a way to fix that problem, lol.

And last but certainly not least, the traditional hot flashes - wow. Just wow.

One thing I learned was to stop eating tomatoes at dinner time - who knew they helped keep your bladder active, lol? Eating those for lunch when I'm in the mood now, and I'm doing much better now.

Trying to accept that I'm not as young as my brain and my soul still think I am. Still a work in progress. I'm typically pretty upbeat, though, so I'm sure the long journey into maturity will bring new joys.

@MidwesternCalmSeeker

Hi MidwesternCalmSeeker, how are you?

I've heard some symptoms can be really annoying. Did you try some strategies like not drinking 2 hours before bed time to see if it gets better? Maybe for the weight issue your doctor can help with a specific diet or with suggestions like what to avoid and what to give more space to in your meals.

I loved that: I'm sure the long journey into maturity will bring new joys.

Thank you for sharing your experience and your positive thought!

Happy New Year to you!

Hi purpleTree4652!

Sorry to hear that it scares you.

I think that symptoms can be common but not necessarily happen all together and with same intensity.

So a bit of knowledge around it can help us being prepared in case but let's wait and see what it will be for us when the moment will come.

Happy 2021 to you!

I went through menopause at a young-ish age.

1. Hot flashes. Not everyone gets them and they don't always go away. I still have hot flashes and I'm several years down the road. Wear layers. Stick with breathable fabric.

2. Weight gain. I suppose at some point it's inevitable. I just started gaining weight last year. I don't like it. I guess I should start an exercise routine. And work on just accepting that I'm not 30 anymore and things will be what they are.

3. Psycologically I think it's learning to accept that, you know, this body is getting old. It is really nice to not have periods anymore. I didn't notice any emotional roller coaster type stuff...but I'm mentally ill, so if it was happening I wouldn't have attributed it to menopause.

This is what iam going through: everything is meaningless, gray hair, depression, restlessness, anxiety, feeling I have wasted the earlier years and an urgency to achieve, trying to recreate the excitement like a teen and everything seem meaningless, weight gain, tendency to over fatigue and desire to do things I never did like dancing and pain in the body. This is what led me to join 7 cups looking for satisfaction. I have helped myself by being conscious of where I am now and I don't give in to what my body craves for. Self appreciation and acceptance has supported me. Group therapy where I share my happenings has helped me.
