I'm 53, and honestly the most irritating thing to me is my failing eyesight. I got my first pair of reading glasses at the age of 48, and they were just for reading very small print, or maps on my iPhone. Since then, I have come to need reading glasses more and more, and I hate carrying them around. It's a minor thing, but it bothers me more than it ought to.
Being one of the older people in the office sort of sucks. Most of my office mates are in their 20-30's and I just dont jive with them much anymore. After I turned 50 I sort of out grew them if that makes sense. What sucks is that relationships in the workplace are actually just as important, sometimes more important, than the work you do. So I can feel some pressure on my to try to keep up with cultural stuff just so I can fit in.
Younger people see me as too old to be friends with, but I have nothing in common with other people my age, so I just can't have friends.
@Rattles
Sorry to hear that. I know I found a friend that is 18 on another app and we check in with each other every morning and sometimes communicate throughout the day sometimes. I do hope you find someone like I did. There is a list called pleasant activities list on Google that there are lots of fun things to do. Maybe you can find something on the list that you can meet new people to hang with. I started square dancing and volunteering at the food bank which is a lot of fun. If you ever do need to chat you can always send me a message also.
@DanaMH That's awesome! Thank you!
Well after busting my tail working in healthcare for decades, I am dealing with ageism. I am struggling to find a job even though I have a lot of good strong experience. I also dealt with severe harrassment at my last job which I have not quite overcome.
I'm spending too much time wishing I had done things differently and had not wasted so much time with the wrong people.
@Auckland
Glad to hear that you aren't with the wrong people anymore but finding a job when you are older is very hard. If you are in the US maybe the unemployment office can help you or a temp agency. Other countires I have also heard have something like these resources available also.
This life stage, the menopause has been a real challenge and struggle for me physically, of course, but also for my relationship in quite a major way - the changes in my body and emotions playing havoc with our interaction and closeness .... anyone else out there that had a similar experience and want to share and support each other?
@QuietSail6485

There is a menopause forum link that might be of interest to you. For the relationship there is a good book called 5 Love Languages that might.
@QuietSail6485 Right there with you! I think there should be a book to warn younger women about this and to help prepare them with their choices. Hot flashes are nothing compared to the rest of the challenges. You can definitely chat with me 😉
I hate my job. I hate it so much, not sure if I should get out and look for another job at my age, 57, or stick it out at my higher rate of pay until I reach retirement age. The place was bought out and it has become a horrible place to work. Not sure how much more I can stand. Got into it with headquarters today, and I may be fired anyway, ha! No one is happy there anymore. It is a den of misery. When one is already depressed, it becomes untenable.
@gentleMelon3170
I am sorry that you hate your job - no one should have to endure a "den of misery" day in and day out.
But you are wise to consider the issues surrounding finding a new position as an older, more experienced worker. Can you look for a new position while continuing to work? That way you can get a feel for the market for someone with your skillset before leaving your current position.
@Laura. The first colonoscopy- was not as bad as everyone said so I am pleased about that. 2 polyps removed so thats a future thing I dont have to worry about. Comparing physical ailments with friends and making fun of each other instills a sense of a shared group.
I had problems with my erection for years and now I cured it! Omg it`s one of the most pleasant feelings to have normal toilet and sex with my wife. My doctor in Australia recommended preparation https://trustmeds.com.au/generic-viagra-australia/ I used it for a month and it helped!
I turned fifty in January and this has been the worst year. I lost my dad to cancer in June, I'm having serious anxiety problems relating to work and home life. I've been on a few antidepressants but none seem to pull me out of this miserable pit.
Relations with my husband are going downhill and he has no empathy for what I am struggling with mentally. We have 2 teenage daughters who drive me to distraction and treat me with disdain unless of course they need me to do something for them.
I'm currently off sick from work due anxiety and depression brought on by dad's death and workplace bullying. I don't feel like I have life of my own and have no real friends to call about how low I feel at the moment. I really can't keep living like this its crippling me inside but I can't seem move forward. I feel so alone.
I've had some counselling through work but this has now ended and I'm waiting for NHS counsellor...
Advice would be very welcome
