Visiting homecountry struggles.
After a good 40 years away from my homecountry, I finally decided, this Easter, to give it a go. To visit my late parents and my childhood home.
Mistake...!
Because, I now don't wish to leave. I finally feel like home. An issue I've had so much whilst travelling and immigrating around the world.
Oof... if only I could stay in Luxembourg forever. Sad truth is I can't; my whole life (kids, job, partner) is in Macedonia.
@Irene2552 you have discovered a new feeling, being home again. No one can take that from you. You can carry that with you wherever you go.
I have inflated feelings of how wonderful some places are from childhood but that is often a puffed up story I tell myself. I wonder if when you go to your home where you live that you will also feel home there. I think our parents have been around us so long that we feel a deep connection to them. The unfortunate thing is there comes a time when they are no longer there. Letting go is difficult, but I am slowly letting go.
Maybe you can retire there some day.
@soulsings
Thank you from the bottom of my heart both for your time and your kind words.
I am thinking of retiring in Luxembourg, that is true. In 4 years time, if things allow it. It's just so... uncanny. To find the feeling of home you tried so much to find in your life... in the place you left first.
@Irene2552 there is the story of the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy wakes up after the storm and says paraphrasing, "I don't have to go anywhere...I was home all the time and did not know it."
