NATIONAL CHERISH AN ANTIQUE DAY

Do you have something special that was passed down from your parents, grandparents or great-grandparents? National Cherish an Antique Day provides us an opportunity to learn the story and the history behind our treasured antiques. Its an excellent time to record the provenance and preserve it for safe keeping.

Antiques are often cherished because of their personal and emotional connections. Often a colorful story tells how it came into the family making it even more valuable as an heirloom.

National Cherish an Antique Day also recognizes the quality and uniqueness of the items that were made by hand rather than by machine.

Give your antiques some attention this week. What are some antiques that you have that you cherish? Is there any story behind them that you would like to share?

@DanaMHI have a saucer, i've always called it a plate. The markings on it says Frank Brothers New Store. My mother gave it to me. The story behind it is that some relatives of hees was to waltz around this plate, and if they did they would win the plate, they won the plate. I can't say i cherish it, but i like the story.

@soulsings

It is amazing the words that our kids use and we just shake our head at them and sometimes we laugh at them for saying certain things.

I have two glass goblets that belonged to my grandmother. They are fairly large and grandma would always drink iced tea from them. Occasionally I get one out and drink tea from it and think about those hot summer days spent sat gramdmas house.
