Friend issue

Hi, this is the issue.

My wife and a lifelong friend of ours have been in a card game with 2 other women. About a month ago, this friend and one of the other women had a dispute about a game rule. It got a bit heated. This other women got up to ask another group about the rule. This lifelong friend hung g friend threw her purse and stormed out of the room. My wife and the other women were shocked at this.

The other 2 women in the game then decided that they would vote to throw our lifelong friend out of the game.( She’s done a few things before demonstrating her anger about nonsense).Thru did not tell my wife of their plans. They texted our friend. She called my wife to tell her. My wife told her that’s terrible. This friend asked my wife if she would slso

leave the game. My wife said she enjoyed the game and wanted to stay in it. This friend hung up after saying that my wife betrayed her.

We live in the same 55+ community.

They haven’t spoken in a month, except for a few texts. This friend told other women that my wife betrayed her, etc. and wants my wife to apologize. Her husband has shunned me at activities that we both attend. He and I are not part of their dispute, but he’s acting as if we are.

We both miss this lifelong friendship, but don’t k is what to do to fix it. Any thoughts? Thanks

@selfdisciplinedSkies4488. I might call the friend to hear her thoughts on the situation and apologize for hurting her feelings. If they really insist I might consider which is more important to me. Continuing a weekly game vs keeping a lifelong friendship.

Thank you for your advice! Hopefully, this friend or my wife will take that first step!

Question: Should I try to set up a meeting between them or is that a recipe for disaster? Thanks

@selfdisciplinedSkies4488. I’m not sure about setting up a meeting. Have you discussed how you are feeling about the situation with your wife?

Yes, I have. She feels badly about it too.

But, she feels that she didn’t do anything wrong. She wasn’t involved in the vote and told the women who did vote that it was the wrong way to handle it. But, she enjoys the game and doesn’t see why she had to leave it.

That’s the dilemma!

If the friendship actually matters, someone has to lower the volume first. Not necessarily apologize for something untrue, but acknowledge how it felt from her side.

Thanks for the advice. I hope either my wife or our friend will take that first step!

Question, Do you think I should initiate this by getting them together? Or is that not a smart thing to do?
