Is moodiness more of a thing in your 50's?
Hello!!
As a first-time poster, I hope I do this correctly! As a woman over 50; in perimenopause, I have been cranky and irritable for months on in. I have also been questioning my relationships with family, friends and co-workers and wondering if they're unbalanced - giving too much and not getting the same effort or care/concern in return. Does this tend to happen more at this age? Could this be due to a harmonal imbalance? Is anyone else going through these types of changes in their 50's? Let's chat.

It is not hormones, and taking pills won't change a thing. We really blossom in our 50's, based on what I see. We can talk, definitely!
I think that alot of times at this age some of the kids stuff and other things lessen so we are not in survival mode all the time. Then we can see how what , and who is around us, and how it all impacts us. We finally take ourselves into consideration and start seeing things we did not have the time or bandwidth tot notice before when looking out for others.
I think it's healthy to re evaluate relationships from time to time. Sometimes they need adjusting to be healthy.
I went through a thing years back in earlier 50s where I sort if dropped the ropes with several people where things were really lopsided. It was interesting to see who touched bases and who stayed quiet.
@powerfulShip2091 There's probably more than one thing going on, but as someone in my 50s I relate. I found myself getting extremely irritated with people, but chalked it up to my situation during the pandemic. However, after consulting a healthcare provider, I learned that a lot of my emotions were related to perimenopause. Adjusting my nutrition and supplements certainly helped manage things, and it was nice to know I wasn't just 'going crazy'. At the same time, I have also been re-evaluating relationships that I've been maintaining but not receiving from. I think that comes with hitting a point in life where it feels like everything counts and not wanting to waste time and energy on people or activities that aren't fulfilling.
I think as we age we generally become more confident in what we want for ourselves, we aren't willing to just settle for "whatever" like we may have done when we were younger. We're smarter, we've lived longer and have learned a lot.
At 20 I would have had friends that may not have been the best for me, and I would choose to go along with everyone else, and I would just accept what I had. At 50, I cherish the few but great friends I have, am completely connected with my family, and am not going to just settle for something because it's available. I want more, and I better for 50+ me. Because I deserve it. :)
