Grief and Loss: Losing Parents
Grief and Loss are one of the big challenges I have faced in the last few years. I lost my dad and my mom has memory issues. Losiing parents has gone deeper and more emotional than I ever imagined. I guess they always led the way by example of what the next phase of life may be. Now it is up to me to make the most of this phase of my life.
How has grief or loss affected your life and your relationships?
Do you want to offer a compassionate ear to those who are grieving? Grief and Loss forum is not widely visited by replying people but there are frequently people here looking to receive support. One very difficult thing to come to terms with, even as an adult is the sudden realisation that you are an orphan. Now this may sound silly to some as adults are supposed to adults, but it is a very strange and concerning experience for many.
Losing a parent, the person you'd always thought of as 'being there' is hard to cope with and one that takes a great deal of time to come to terms with, so be kind to yourself and cherish the memories you have.

The thought of loosing a parent is difficult, hey are the only ones that love you, look out for you, have your best interest in mind. They sacrifice ebwryevery. I can't believe how lucky I am to have such parents and thinkig of them gone is making me cry.

@lucy2 I moved from a place and a job I loved to come back home when my parents began having health problems. Your post about feeling like an orphan was revenant to me. My parents died within a year and a half of each other. Now Im not near any of my family. I am trying to make it work, but it definitely has been not what I expected.
Hi @Lauren63
It so very difficult to cope with isn't it?
We never imagine that we'll lose our parents and I'm so sorry that you lost both in a short space of time. Sadly, you left the stability of friends and your job for the right reasons but which makes the situation and isolation more diffficult to manage. I'm wondering if you may feel at some point the need to return for the sake of normality but I imagine that's not an an easy decision to make, nor practical but something to think about especially if you have other family.
Take care

@lucy2 I gave up a lot to move to an area that I didnt know a much about. But no one forced me to do it. And I will say, mostly a good experience. I took my folk out to eat or go to art shows or just sit at the beach. But withdrawing care was hard. I am glad I dont have to do that anymore. Thank goodness for hospice care.
Hi @Lauren63
You really are an amazing person
no you didn't have to do it and many wouldn't, but you did and that's commendable.
Always here for you.

@soulsings I'm truly sorry to hear about the loss of your dad and your mom's memory issues. Grief and loss can indeed be deeply emotional experiences, especially when they involve the loss of parents who often guide us through life's phases. Coping with such significant changes can be incredibly challenging. It's important to recognize that grieving is a challenging process, and it's okay to feel a wide range of emotions during this time. If you ever feel the need to talk about your feelings or experiences related to grief and loss, seeking support from friends, family, or a therapist can be very helpful. They can provide understanding and guidance as you navigate this difficult journey. Please know that you're not alone, and your emotions are valid. If you ever want to discuss your feelings or need support, you can reach out to people who care about you or seek professional help to help you through this challenging period of your life.
