Old and unnessasary
Is how I am feeling today. I am 64, almost 65, living with a woman two years younger than me. She didn't sleep well last night, finally came in to my bedroom 10 minutes before I was to get up to go to work. I was not much help to her. I got to work and I had a problem on my hands - a computer had died and we don't have an image to replace it with. I am left with several options; I can just leave it dead (someone will complain sooner or later) I can image it with a different image (that is the correct thing to do) or I can use software to copy the computer next to it over, thus making it work exactly like the computer next to it. That is considered to be the wrong thing to do. I am now backing up the computer next to it, and will restore that over the damaged hard drive. That is a barely acceptable solution. Plus, I found that none of the computers in two different labs can access a printer. Last week they could. Someone changed things, without telling me. But then, I am no longer responsible for the computer labs anyway, so I shouldn't worry about them.
@Offmytrack I am sorry to read that you feel that way. I do hope the computer gets fixed without much worry.
@Offmytrack "old and unnecessary"?! How many 65 year old even know what you're talking about when you say you're going to image the hard drive! That's awesome that you know how to do that!
And don't beat yourself up about doing it the easiest way. Who says its "not correct"? Don't listen to that inner voice!
Thanks, @Kavajava.The director of my department has said it it's not the right way, but I did it that way anyway. Now it works. That is what teachers and students need.
