What is AMA?

Ask Me Anything!

Don't we have that?

Yes, we have AMA's all over our forums! There are ongoing conversations from which we can all learn and share. These will still be present/ not going anywhere!

How will the live AMA be different?

It will be set aside times for individuals who have a special area of expertise or personal story to come and share with you in the forum. Similar to a community discussion, each will last an hour and be a time for you to post questions learn!

My question for you:

What topics interest you?

Is there a community member you'd like to nominate to lead one? Do you know anyone outside of 7 Cups who may be interested in sharing their story or knowledge with 7 Cups?

not sure how the ama's go. i'll be sure to look them up in the forums. but in the meanwhile i'd be interested in hearing anyone's story who has suffered from past sexual abuse and/or trauma and has learned something along their way of healing that would be interested and willing to share what they've experienced in their recovery with us here at 7 cups.

I'd be willing to do an AMA on that.

That definitely sounds like something that would be helpful. I've been struggling with ptsd lately due to being sexually assaulted. What helps for me one dsy, may not work the next. I'm constantly trying different things to get thru each day.

I just wanted to say that I have specific expertise in two areas and would like to submit myself as a candidate to do an AMA on these topics.

1) Living with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Anxiety.
I have been diagnosed with MDD with Anxiety for just about three years now. I have been through various types of therapy and can speak about the nature of the illness such as how it can be episodic and also what has been helpful for me and others I know who are experiencing depression or anxiety.

2) Living/dealing with a family member or someone close to you who has mental illness.
My father has had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) since I was four years old. I spent thirteen years living in the house with him and still continue to support him to this day with his illness. I can speak about the the specific challenges that are involved with PTSD or just living/dealing with someone close to you who has a mental illness or mental health issues.

So there :) if anyone would be interested in me doing an AMA regarding either of those topics, I would be happy to do so. I think this is also a great project by the way. If anyone has any questions for me, please feel free to send me a message.

Tranquil Song, I'd love to hear about what you've learned about your disorders and how to cope with them! I think this would be most helpful to many!!!

Hey there tranquilSong. Sorry to hear about your issues but, I was wondering if you could help clear something up for me regarding anxiety and/or panic attacks. Lately I've noticed people in chat or in 1 on 1's that are experiencing anxiety /panic atacks. Are they one in the same and if not, could you shed some light on the differences between the two? Much appreciated. Thank You!

@FaithInHumanity

Although some people do not believe that there is a difference between anxiety and panic attacks, there actually is a distinction.

First, anxiety attacks are usually associated with anxiety disorders while panic attacks are associated with panic disorders. Not very helpful, but I will explain.

Panic attacks usually include some very intense symptoms such as sweating, rapid heartbeat, and many more. They are severe and their onset is extremely fast - all of the symptoms that one experiences come quickly and intensely. They also usually do not last for an extended period of time.

An anxiety attack includes many of the same symptoms as a panic attack but the onset is usually slower and the symptoms are less intense. However, with an anxiety attack, the symptoms usually last longer - even up to several hours.

Hope I answered your question! For more information please check this outhttps://panicdisorder.about.com/od/understandingpanic/a/anxvspanic.htm

I'd like to know how do I stop feeling so pathetic and needy, I don't have any family and my work colleagues wouldn't understand, they see. Me as funny & strong where inside I'm really weak and pathetic, I just wanna hide in a ball under the duvet but I have to pay the bills so need to work.

How do you deal with someone who you love constantly being upset at the world and at you? How should I try to make them feel better? It seems like everytime they need me I'm knee deep in my own pain and can't seem to get out

Hey, music lover, I believe that whatever it is that bothers you all the time, you should definitely share that with your partner. They'd realize how much they mean to you and would open up to you without hesitation. Talking about stuff is the only way, love. :)

Yes, I would be happy to have an AMA about parenting in general, academics, and children with social and emotional needs.

I'd love to see more of these.

The AMA section isn't used as it should at the moment. So many new threads there that have no connection with the AMA idea... The new forum mentor live AMA was great, hope to see more of these in the future!

Can anyone suggest me ways. On how to deal with someone who is functioning okay on daily basis but seems depressed on deeper issues? But they don't want to agree on being depressed.
