Positive Attitude - Acceptance

March 16th, 2019

Hey hey lovely people of Positivity & Gratitude community!

Today we will be talking about Postive Attitude - Acceptance and I hope many of us can participate in this discussion. I think many of us struggle with having a positive attitude at times and it can be really difficult to brush something like that off! We spend hours on end thinking about the different sides of a situation and it's natural to get stuck on the negative ones.

Oxford dictionary defines Attitude as - A settled way of thinking or feeling about something. Another definition that really made me think was - An attitude is somewhere between a belief, a stance, a mood, and a pose. If you've got an attitude about something, it can be hard to change it because you think you're right.

Our question is what positive attitude means? Is it always about sunshine, hope and faith? The answers are rather very subjective. To me, a positive attitude means to acknowledge a given situation and concealing the arsing thoughts I may have when I think about it. Yes, easier said than done cheeky It's really hard to accept your thoughts in their raw form, it's usually because people do not really perceive things the way they are, rather we accept things the way we think they are. That's where positive attitude kicks in! If we really think about it, things are often way worse in our head than they actually seem to be. That's why when we talk to our friend or anyone, what they say usually helps us. It's not that they're saying anything different to what you truly believe, they just say it as it is. It's easier to express things in their true form externally than to express them internally. "Acceptance does not mean you agree with, condone, appreciate or even like what has happened. Acceptance means that you know regardless of what happened that there is something bigger than you at work. It also means you know that you are okay and that you will continue to be okay." Acceptance is not "things will get better" but that things are and will continue to be okay.

No matter how your life is, even at it's worst the way we perceive it can be changed. Maybe the thing won't really change, maybe the situation doesn't get better but what we think has power over us, not the things that have happened. Our mind is hard to control, yes and thoughts don't really know the concept of coming and going until we stand by our own judgement. You can let thoughts go just as you let them come, welcome them, accept them but know they're temporary just like many other things. Let things come and let them go.

🍂 Do you think attitude is something we can change even after considering all aspects of a given circumstance? If yes, share one thought that has troubled you and accept the way it truly is. You cannot change it, you cannot alter some small parts of it but you can accept it and let it go. Own that power you have!

I just found out my eldest will not graduate and I have come to accept the fact that he may get a GED or online HS diploma and..... it's ok. Bc he broke down crying something I haven't seen him do in almost 10 yrs. and. I realized he was breaking down bc of hi fear of disappointing me. And THAT broke my heart. I hadn't realized how much pressure I was placing on him. So my definition of positive attitude is accepting all outcomes of life when it gives those we love the inner peace and calm they need to succeed. I may not agree with HIS plans but ultimately I want J to be happy to feel loved and know that no matter what I'll always be proud of him

A friend of mine did not react the way I expected to a thank you. I kept trying to fix it and messaged him to try and understand how this is a positive thing and I am trying to say thanks and I appreciate it. No response, so I decided to accept I will not get my desired response or truly understand why he reacted the way he did. I will leave him alone and hope that our friendship is strong enough to survive this and will need to wait until I see him in person next to get a better idea if our friendship is still there. I miss him but will give him space. I am also going to accept that it could be the end of our friendship and that is a great loss for me, as he is an amazing man.

I definitely think we can change our attitude about things. I had a long held attitude about my job that I was able to change.

I also think the the term ‘positive attitude ‘ suggests that the person is happy, bubbly, and thrilled with everything that comes along. For me, that just seems unattainable for most people. Im thinking that cultivating an attitude of acceptance is more achievable.

I like how you see positive attitude and acceptance! I think there's a fine line in between both. Positive attitude can be hard to attain, given that many of the situations are beyond our control. Acceptance is surely very important because it brings about a lot many changes in our attitude! Thanks for sharing your response! ❤

@reservedexcitment I started actulally listening to other peoples opinions and getting them to explain in detail. I also started opening up and sharing my concerns and fears (with those I felt I could trust).

I'm not goingto say things are always perfect, but it helped alot.

The workers there all hate their workplace. They have anger and stark lines in the office after the merger. I came after wards and not part of a side, plus started the workforce after the era of affluence so I have never seen luxury like what they have seen. So for me I don't have q loyalty group or lost anything. So the more I listen to them the more I feel poisoned.

Attitude is definitely something we can change.

Attaining the attitude of acceptance was one of the most important and helpful things I did to get through depression. I used to think that there are thoughts that I shouldnt have and that this makes me a terrible person. But every thought, no matter how dreadful, is just a thought and accepting and acknowledging it as it is all you can really do. We cant control our thoughts, but we can control how we respond to them.

This is such a lovely answer! Thanks for sharing your response. Depression is really serious and the thoughts particularly can be extremely dreadful. Thoughts are powerful and it's true that we can't control them. Accepting them as they truly are, is one of the best things we can do to heal and sometimes it might be the only choice we have. ❤
